Jim and Karen: My thoughts are with you during this difficult time of loss. Bill was such a sports icon for the whole Jefferson and Tri-Valley community. His encouraging and explicit sports reports had us all rushing to read our weekly Transcript. We were blessed to have his journalism expertise as inspiration for every athlete! And to Neal Adams, thank you for going above and beyond and for showing us all what true friendship is about. Rode the bus with Bill to and from many basketball games back in the 70's and on the way home he would rehash the whole game...he also one time coined Brenda Hindel and I as smooth together on the basketball court as "bread and butter" in a Dresden transcript write up, we have laughed about that for years...great guy!

Jim, I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing. It was Bill who got me (and others) involved in coaching Farm League and umpiring Little League baseball during my teen years, that I really enjoyed. From 1971-74, he gave his teams, coaches, and umpires their choice of attending a MLB game in Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh, all out of his pocket. I was fortunate enough to go to 4 games in Cleveland, 1 in Cincy, and 2 in Pittsburgh (which at that time seemed to be on the other side of the country!) with him, of which I was highly appreciative. Some of the BEST memories of my youth included Bill and baseball. Bill may be gone, but his kindness will never be forgotten.
