Mom's 3 year journey with dementia ended peacefully in her sleep. Every Sunday after I went off to college and thereafter we would talk on the phone. That lasted for 41 years until a couple years ago when she was no longer able to talk on the phone.
Through it all she kept a sense of humor with her little quips or funny replies, even after her memory had deteriorated. Virginia loved her family and friends. She begrudgingly gave up mowing her yard but gladly stopped canning vegetables after Dad passed. In the years following Dad's death, we saw Mom make a life for herself, getting more involved in church, traveling with her sister-in-law Lucille and friends from church, taking up watercolors and subbing in card games.
It seems everyday she was outside picking up sticks in the yard. Crossword puzzles,Sudoku and Nutmeg or Snickers were always close by. She was passionate about her Ohio State Buckeyes, loved her puppy dogs and enjoyed the wildlife that visited her backyard. Always practical, it was hard for her to leave her house for Sharonbrooke, but also understood why.
One day she and I were making brownies and I asked her for a half a cup of water. She got the water, it was the correct amount, but she looked at me for confirmation and immediately said, "now I know I'm losing it". A professional life in pharmacy, measuring and counting hundreds of times a day seemed to vanish with that comment.
I"m so glad she is now at peace and if she wants, she can count every star in the heavens.
Both Marilyn and I send our sincere condolences for the loss of your mother Virginia. She was always Aunt Virginia to us. I remember their marriage and the move into their new house in Logan. She was always so kind and loving to everyone. Kenley and Virgina visited our home when we first moved to North Carolina. We enjoyed their visit immensely and will remember it always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this sad time. Larry and Marilyn
We were neighbors of Virginia & Kenley in Athens for several years. We've always said there was nothing they wouldn't, or couldn't, do. We look around our home & see many projects they did or helped us with. We are currently using several pieces of furniture made by Virginia's father. Wonderful neighbors and friends.
I remember Virginia when she came to work as a new pharmacist fresh out of OSU, My father was Myron Stoltz of Stoltz Drug in Logan. I was about 10 yrs old and she was always kind to me and my brother. A woman pharmacist in those days was a rarity. Sincere sympathies from the Stoltz Family. Judy Stoltz Maniskas, Logan Ohio.
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
So sorry for your loss. Virginia was a very sweet lady and I always enjoyed visiting with her when she attended First Church. Gary and Karen, you were awesome caregivers, please take care of each other now. Praying for your family,
Love you Mom
I will miss Aunt Virginia. My husband Chuck was also fond of her.
Linda & Beverly first met Virginia when she came to our house with Uncle Kenley. They were going to a dance. He was wearing a manly corsage containing a Lucky Strike package. Mother said Virginia was Uncle Kenleys girl friend. We thought she was just beautiful in her dress. We both fell in love with her then. through the years she has always been a graceful, loving, kind lady. Linda and I will always love and miss her.
