Ray E. Ashcraft's Obituary
A mass of Christian burial will be held for Ray E. Ashcraft, 77 of Granville and formerly Frazeysburg will be held Tuesday January 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville with Monsignor Paul P. Enke, presiding. Burial will follow in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
Mr. Ashcraft died Friday, January 2, 2015 at his residence. He was born December 15, 1937 in Coshocton County to the late Roy Edward and Francis Harriet (Gault) Ashcraft.
Ray graduated from Union Local High School. He was employed or 38 years with Continental Can and a proud member of the United Steel Workers. He was employed 3 years at the Zanesville Sears store following retirement. He spent his lifetime farming. He was a member of Church of St. Edward the Confessor and Marne United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antiques.
He is survived by his wife, Monna (Allison) McCabe-Ashcraft; daughter, Tami Ashcraft of Newark; sons, Chester Ashcraft of Houston, TX, Jeffrey Ashcraft of Palm Springs, CA; six step-children; sisters, Wanda (Harold) Donker of Fallsburg, Naomi Hubbell of Frazeysburg, Phyllis Modsitt of Fallsburg; seven grandchildren, Tasia, Chasity, Michael, Julie, Jonathan, Kenney, Chester; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Elizabeth (Biddle) Ashcraft; and son, Kenneth George Ashcraft and a brother, Dwight Ashcraft.
Calling hours will be observed Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street, Newark with vigil services at 6 p.m.
