Freda E. Mathis' Obituary
A funeral service for Freda Evelyn (Davis) Mathis, 80 of Newark will be held Saturday January 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Church of God, God’s Acres, 675 N. Cedar Street, Newark with Irwin Sesher officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Freda passed away January 13, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born January 6, 1931 in Newark to the late Delmar and Celia (Pimm) Davis.
She was a graduate of the Newark High School class of 1948. She was a homemaker and baked wedding cakes for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Verlin Mathis, whom she married October 25, 1950; son, Fred (Karen) Mathis; daughters, Marilyn Ponser, Kathy (Jeff) Wells, Barb (Steve) Green, Jeannette (Rex) Romine; sister, Marjorie Cline; brother, Larry Davis; all of Newark; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and extended family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Davis; sisters, Loretta Davis, Hallie Garrabrant; granddaughter, Wanda Chenault; great grandson, Samuel Green.
Calling hours will be observed Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church of God, God’s Acres.
