Chester Ray Gault's Obituary
Funeral services for Chester Ray Gault, 96 of Newark will be held Monday May 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Scott Bryant presiding. Burial will be in Rocky Fork Cemetery in Hickman, OH with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Calling hours will be observed from 10 am until service time on Monday.
Chester passed way Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Sharonbrooke in Newark Ohio. He was born June 26, 1919 in Pike Township, Coshocton County, OH to the late Ray and Bernice (McGruder) Gault.
Chester graduated from West Carlisle High School in 1938. He entered the U. S. Army Air Corp at Wright Patterson on February 4, 1942 serving with General Lamay in the European Theatre. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1945. He was employed by Pure Oil Co. in Heath for 24 years until they closed. He retired as an electrician from Owens Corning Tech Center in Granville.
Chester was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Newark. He and Happy were both active in the Deux Cum Class and enjoyed many years of fellowship. He ushered for over 50 years and was always helping and serving where needed. He was a member of the Land of Legion Antique Tractor Club which gave him an opportunity to enjoy his John Deere tractors. He enjoyed crafting with wood, metals, photography and was an avid walker.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Frances “Happy” (Levingston) Gault whom he married October 25, 1946.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sister, Dorothy Houdeshell; nieces and nephews, Patricia Woeste, Monte (Keena) Houdeshell, Naomi Hubbell, Wanda (Harold) Donaker, Phyllis Modesitt, Bill (Timmie) Gault, Ruthellen (Ron) Anderson, Bethann (Phil) Altman, Pamela (Dave) Harrold, Martha (Steve) Mishler, Beth Anne (Rob) Young, James (Carol) Levingston, Jeff (Cynthia) Levingston; many great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant brother, Herman Gault; brother and sister-in-law, Willard (Mary) Gault; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances (Roy) Ashcraft, Margaret (John) Scrafford, Roe Houdeshell, Robert Eli (Gladys Marie) Levingston; Marion (Mary Levingston) Ashcraft; nephews, Robert Ashcraft and Ray Ashcraft.
The family wishes to thank the Chesteretts for coming to Sharonbrooke to sing, Hospice of Central Ohio and all the staff at Sharonbrooke Assisted Living for the years of care that was provided to Chester.
