William A. Spencer's Obituary
A private graveside funeral service for William A. Spencer, 77 of Newark was held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating.
Mr. Spencer died Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born January 18, 1938 in Washington, D.C. to Calvin Benjamin and Lillian A. (Pharis) Spencer.
He was a devoted firefighter in the Baltimore, MD Fire Department with 30 years of service. He had been a bus driver for the Granville School System. He also volunteered at the Granville Fire Department. He was an Endowed Life Member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Joy O. (Crabtree) Spencer; daughters, Tracie (Philip) Claggett of Newark, Tina (Greg) Goodpasture of Hilliard; grandchildren, Brandon Davis, Alli (Robert) Martin, Emily Goodpasture, Spencer Magers, Games Claggett; great-grandchildren, George Martin and Norah Martin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, William A. Spencer, Jr. and Barkley A. Spencer.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Newark Fire Department, Granville Fire Department, Heath Fire Department, Catholic Social Services or Hospice of Central Ohio.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the Newark Chapel of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME. 1850 West Main Street.
