Virgil F. Williams' Obituary
Virgil F. Williams, 95 of Somerset died Monday September 12, 2016 at the Somerset Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 9, 1921 in Crooksville, OH to Frank K. and Genevieve (Russell) Williams.
Mr. Williams a former resident of New Albany and Newark was retired as plant engineer from D. L. Auld Company of Columbus. He was owner of the Williams Harness Racing Stable. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart for injuries while in France. He was a 1940 graduate of Somerset High School. He was active in Magnolia Lodge # 20 F&AM, Aladdin Shriners and Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He showed horses, ponies and harness raced in the area throughout his life. He enjoyed playing the guitar and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two grandsons, Larry L. Williams, Jr. of Newark, Chad (Carrie) Williams of Croton; daughter-in-law, Linda (Gorsuch) Williams of Johnstown; great-grandchildren, Audra (Bret) Kaser, Chase Williams, Owen Williams, Ila Williams; great-great-granddaughters, Meghan Kaser, McKenna Kaser; sisters, Evelyn Chute of Somerset, Darlene Bookman of New Lexington; sister-in-law, Sally Williams of New Lexington; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Carter) Williams; sons, Larry L. Williams, Sr., Terry L. Williams; infant daughter, Patricia Williams.
Funeral services will be held Friday September 16, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in the Crooksville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be observed Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
