Virgil Wayne McElwee, 89 of Newark passed away after courageously fighting a long battle with heart and kidney disease. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Newark C Read Obituary
Dear Ruth and family, So sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. We were on vacation when we got the news and our hearts were sad to know we would not see him again. But, so happy he is completely whole and healed and having a great time in heaven! Dear Mcelwee Family, there is no words to say how sad it is that we have lost such a loving and wonderful person. I remember growing up at South Gate and going to church Sunday, Sunday nite and Wed and seeing Wayne and Ruth there. I loved going to the Mcelwees home for bible study and dinners, such great memories. Wayne and Ruth have always been in my heart and made a lasting impression on me. My parents Dave and Mary Dill along with Brenda and Bryan, loved spending time with Wayne and Ruth and the Family. May God give you the peace and love in this time of need. Just know he is well taken care of in Heaven and awaits all of us one day.
Ruth, Jeff and families, I am so sorry for your loss but I am so glad for Wayne's victory. He was always a soldier...for this country but most of all for Jesus. His love for God and the church have always been an inspiration to me. His legacy will live on for many, many years to come. He will be deeply missed. May God's peace rest on all of you and comfort you in the days ahead.

I still remember growing up and always telling Wayne that my Papaw Frank would pay for him and I to go to Mrytle Beach. He was like a grandpa to me. I will miss that tall teddy bear. He was the sweetest man. Lots of fond memories I have with him and Ruth with my grandparents.

Wayne was a wonderful person and am sorry he is gone. He fought a long fight.
