Ruth Ellen Burns' Obituary
Ruth Ellen (Metheny) Burns
Ruth Ellen (Metheny) Burns passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 6, 1962 in Newark to the late David F. Metheny and Phyllis J. Metheny, who survives. She graduated from Lakewood Schools in 1981 as well as C-Tec. Ruth’s first love was her family but she also enjoyed traveling to warm, sunny destinations; most of the time with family. She loved people and planning and arranging special events at church with her friend Tanny Lumbatis. Ruth attended the Church of God of Licking County. Her pastor, Anthony Bartlette had been her pastor, friend and confidant since she was a young girl.
After her father passed away in 2010, Ruth and her daughter Chelsea helped care for her mother. Ruth’s last days were spent in resting travels with her husband Greg who also went to great lengths to care for her at home. It was a long illness but she remained content, full of joy and happy on the path God had planned for her.
In addition to her mother, Phyllis and her husband, Greg of 23 years, she is survived by her children, Gregory (Jennifer), Jeremy (Rachael), Chelsea and Celeste (Cory); 5 grandchildren, Kira, Sheridan, Daniel, Teghan and Lincoln; and brothers, Mark (Sheila), Dean and Dan (Kim).
Friends and family may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016 at The Church of God of Licking County, 2181 Riggs Rd, NE, Newark.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the church with Pastor Anthony Bartlette officiating. A family meal will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of God of Licking County or Hospice of Central Ohio.
