Roy Meadows' Obituary
A funeral service for Roy Meadows, 92 of Newark will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Real Life Church, 24 Mill St., Newark with Pastor Don Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Meadows died Thursday March 29, 2018 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born August 23, 1925 in Bedford, Indiana to Floyd and Edna (Stewart) Meadows.
Mr. Meadows retired from the Newark Air Force Base in 1980 as an electronic technician. He then continued working an additional 20 years with Mathis Moving and Storage. He was a member of the Newark Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Meadows served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a machinist’s mate 2nd class in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. He enjoyed wintering in Alabama for several years and traveled to Israel on two different occasions. He found fishing and playing cards relaxing. He was always available to lend a helping hand. He was a fan of the Buckeyes and Hoosiers sports programs. His family was very important to him and he was always present for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren activities.
He is survived by his two sons, Bob (Janet) Meadows and Mike Meadows all of Newark; grandchildren, Mark (Angie) Meadows of Hebron, Cathy (Gary) Ryan of Blacklick, Tricia (Shams) Khwaja of Fresno, CA, Mary (Dave) Montgomery of Oakwood, OH, Ashley (John) Morgan of Newark, Lucy (Meadows) Roback of Newark; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Bunch of Bloomington, IN; his loving friend and companion, Audrey Snow of Newark; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Elsie (Hahn) Meadows; sister, Bernice Kelley; grandson, James Meadows.
Visitation will be observed Monday, April 2, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.
