Ronald Lynn Hopkins' Obituary
Ronald Lynn Hopkins, 74, passed to his rest and is now in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ May 14, 2021, at Newark Health and Rehabilitation Center, Newark, OH. He was born September 17, 1946, in Greensburg, PA to the late Oren and Beulah (Miller) Hopkins.
Survivors include his son, Greg (Leah) Hopkins; Greg’s mother, Bonnie J. Hopkins; grandchildren, Aiden and Paige Hopkins; brothers, Jerry (Andrea) Hopkins, Dan (Mary Ann) Hopkins; a sister, LeeAnn (Doug) Holman. Ron is also survived by his dear friend and former spouse, Lynn Hopkins; step daughters Ali Ast and Niki Lacy; 5 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren; an aunt, Barbara (Hopkins) Patch; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ron was a 1964 graduate of Hempfield Area High School, Greensburg, PA, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968. Ron served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was subsequently a music teacher for Hempfield Area School District in PA. After moving to Ohio he worked for the state in Job and Family Services and was also a substitute teacher.
Ron loved to sing and play the guitar and performed with many different choirs and musical ensembles. In college he performed the role of Count Almaviva in Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” and Captain Corcoran in Gilbert and Sullivan’s “HMS Pinafore”.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Newark Seventh Day Adventist Church (where Ron was a member) with Elder Leon Brown officiating. An additional memorial service is being planned for sometime in the future in Pennsylvania.
