Robert K. Thompson's Obituary
A funeral service for Robert K. Thompson, 87 of Newark will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Thompson died Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Autumn Health Care. He was born December 28, 1926 in Hebron, Ohio to Wesley Raymond and Vera Kathryn (Hoskinson) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson retired from Frenier Sheet Metal with 43 years of service. He was employed as a courier for Park National Bank for close to ten years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre aboard the flag ship USS Estes. He participated in the battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa and was part of the Occupation Force in Japan. He had a very strong work ethic and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed farming and was a loving grandfather.
He is survived by five children, Michael (Linda) Thompson, Deborah (Gary) Bohman, Lori (Jim) Tabler, Mark (Jan) Thompson, Holly (Chip) Santos; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Helen T. (Lucas) Thomson, on November 16, 2010 and great-granddaughter, Ava Graves.
Calling hours will be observed Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main St.
The family requests memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
