Robert J. Schwab's Obituary
A funeral service for Robert J. Schwab, 87 of Heath will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Hottinger officiating. Entombment will take place at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Schwab died Saturday September 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 25, 1930 in Lebanon, PA to John Andrew and Gertrude Elizabeth (Greiner) Schwab.
He retired from DCSC in 1989 as a computer analyst. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School and a self-educated auto mechanic. He was a member for over 50 years at Cox United Methodist where he served in the choir and had been on various committees. He was a member of the Newark Emmaus Community. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. His favorite sport was playing golf and was an avid OSU football fan. He would repair autos for his friends in his garage. His greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Luvera M. (Wise) Schwab whom he married June, 25, 1949; children, Roberta (Michael) Welsh of Newark, Kathleen “Kathy” Schwab of New Port Richey, FL, Paulette “Sue” (Charles P.) Smith of Jupiter, FL, Debra L. (James) Greenwood of Hebron, Robert J.( Melisa) Schwab, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; son-in-law, Brian Keith of Bixby, OK; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Gertrude Gates, Marian Schwab, Cora (Ronald) Krieser, Paul (Joan) Schwab all of Lebanon, PA; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, MaryAnn Chancey; sisters, Ellen Bowman, Ruth Moyer; brothers, Charles Schwab, John Schwab; two grandsons and one great-grandson.
Calling hours will be observed Wednesday evening 5 pm to 8 pm at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
