Robert D. Meldahl, Sr.'s Obituary
The family of Robert “Bob” Meldahl Sr., 92 of Granville OH invites all family and friends to celebrate his life at a service at the Vensil and Chute Funeral Home Saturday March 16 from 2:00-3:00 pm with services from 3:00 – 3:30 pm. Services will include military honors. A reception will follow at the Family Center at the funeral home.
Bob passed March 10, 2013 at his residence with his wife and children at his side.
He was born August 19, 1920 in Charleston, WV to the late Betty and Horace Meldahl.
Bob attended the University of Cincinnati and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His degree led him to many exciting opportunities designing large equipment for Bucyrus Erie, Marion Power Shovel, Cape Canaveral (for the US space program) and to Roper in Newark OH. He later founded Meldahl Engineering in Granville designing and building machinery for many local companies.
April 19, 1947 Bob married the love of his life Nadyne. Nadyne is a retired teacher from Newark City Schools. They were blessed with three children: Karen West (husband Sam) of Greensboro NC, Bob Meldahl Jr (wife Bobbi) of Newark OH and Tony Meldahl of Columbus OH (fiancée Gina Razi). Grandchildren: Graham West, Anna O’Connell, Erin West, Ryan Meldahl, Brody Meldahl, Franziska Draeger and great grandson Aiden O’Connell. Also in Bob’s life was family friend and devoted eldercare professional, Karen Stewart and her loving crew.
Bob served his country in WWII as a pilot having flown T-6 “Texans”, P-40 War Hawks, and B-17 Flying Fortresses. He was in pilot training for the B-29 “Super Fortress” when the Japanese surrendered. Bob served as a flight and aerial gunnery instructor. He loved to fly.
The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration (Newark and Columbus) for their support and Hospice of Central Ohio for their incredible service.
