Richard W. Castle's Obituary
A private family interment for Richard W. Castle, 81 of Newark will be held at a later date in Millersport Cemetery.
Mr. Castle died Wednesday November 30, 2011 at the Autumn Care Center of Newark. He was born July 30, 1930 in Thornville to the late Harold and Ethel (Miller) Castle.
Mr. Castle retired in 1971 after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. He saw service during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era. He retired in Newark and was employed by Sunden Aviation for a number of years. Mr. Castle a private pilot also enjoyed flying radio controlled planes and constructing model airplanes. He was a member of AOPA. He also was active in racing hydroplane boats. He had spent many hours playing the steel guitar. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and was active in a Monday Golf League.
His family was very important to him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Haru (Nagahama) Castle, whom he married September 28, 1958; children, Janis Jenkins of Canal Winchester, Robert (Linda) Castle of Newark, David (Rachel) Castle of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Jason Castle, Meagan Castle, Steven Castle, Daniel Castle, Stephanie Rodgers; sisters, Betty Toth of Groveport, Dee Hartman of Newark, Janice (Ray) Dean of Utica; brother, Robert Castle of Bradenton, FL, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Eunice Adell and brother, Larry Castle.
Calling hours will be observed Friday, December 2, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street.
