Ray E. Beck's Obituary
A funeral service for Ray E. Beck, 82 of Newark will be held Monday, November 16, 2015at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Water’s Edge Assembly of God at 2249 Cherry Valley Road, Newark with Pastor Rusty Foley officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Beck died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born in Londonderry Twp., Guernsey County on June 5, 1933 to the late Robert Henry and Laura Edith (Sudduth) Beck.
He retired in 1995 as a welder/fabricator at Modern Welding. He was also formerly employed at Garwood’s and Sargent’s. Following retirement he worked several years mowing for the Licking County Highway Dept. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a faithful member and supporter of the Water’s Edge. He and his wife were instrumental in establishing the church’s food pantry program. He enjoyed fishing and baseball. He had played on several church ball teams. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the OSU Buckeyes. He always looked forward to traveling to the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton. He loved his family and never lacked for photos and stories of their activities.
He is survived by two children, Susan (Michael) Palmer of Dennison, OH, Robert Beck of Newark; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Beck of Newark; son-in-law, Robert McGill of Dennison; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Colegrove of Lodi, OH, EmmaJane Stephens of Barnesville, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Wilma L. (Ochsenbine) Beck on December 4, 2011; children, Patricia McGill, Michael Beck; sisters, Elvira Furbee, Mary Viola Worthington, Elizabeth “Libby” Towler; brother, Wesley Beck.
Calling hours will be observed at Water’s Edge Assembly of God Church, 2249 Cherry Valley Road from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015.
The family requests memorial contributions to the church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to the Newark Chapel, VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME.
