Paul E. Gutridge's Obituary
A funeral service for Paul E. Gutridge, 91 of Newark will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Betsy Williams officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide Military Funeral Honors.
Mr. Gutridge peacefully passed away April 4, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born March 29, 1926 in Newark to the late Albert M. and Florence C. (Woolard) Gutridge.
A 1944 graduate of Newark High School, Mr. Gutridge honorable served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was employed by Rockwell International (formerly North American Aviation) for 33 years, retiring in 1986 as Quality Laboratory Manager and NDT Level 3. He was honored with numerous achievement awards for his contribution to the Space Shuttle Program and the B-1B Bomber.
Mr. Gutridge grew up on a family farm which instilled a work ethic that followed him into retirement as he maintained a vegetable garden and made significant contributions to the success of the M&M Christmas Tree Farm. He liked to tinker in the shed maintaining tools and equipment with the same care as his father. He enjoyed playing cards, watching any sport on television, and listening to gospel and big band music. He was a great baseball fan (Cincinnati Reds) and coached Little League and Babe Ruth. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Babe Ruth League and was the game scheduler for a number of years.
Survivors include his daughter, Sherry Ayers of Charlotte, NC; a son, P. Michael (Mary) Gutridge of Granville, OH; step-daughter, Marcia (Rick) Henderson of Heath, OH; grandchildren, Brian Hoy of Blacklick, OH, Summer (Michael) Savin of Charlotte, NC, Erin (Pat) Gutridge-McPherson of Reynoldsburg, OH, Ericka Henderson of St. Petersburg, FL, Mindy (Ken) Tietz of Granville, OH, Jason Snelling of Newark, OH; a niece, Barb Pletcher; a grand niece, Deb Reid, both of Heath, OH; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Herman; a sister, Grace; and his second wife, Anna L. Gutridge.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kendal Rehab, HomeInstead and Middleton for their great work in taking care of our Dad.
