Max D. Ivers' Obituary
A funeral service for Max D. Ivers, 82 of Newark will be held Saturday June 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Marne United Methodist Church, 1019 Licking Valley Road NE with Pastor Ben Foulk officiating. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Ivers died Wednesday June 4, 2014 at the home of his daughter. He was born January 7, 1932 in Perry County to the late Faye and Mary Elizabeth (Frazier) Ivers.
Mr. Ivers was a 1949 graduate of Newark High School. He served in the U. S. Navy and Navy Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Smythe Manufacturing, a technician for Green’s Radiator, Newark Stove and retired in 1992 from Rockwell Manufacturing. He served two terms as chief union steward for Local # 1037 UAW. A member of American Legion Post # 85, Newark Loyal Order of Moose, Newark Eagles and Marne United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling and was active in several different leagues. He was a coach for several years at the Mound City Little League. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He spent many enjoyable hours outdoors hunting and gardening. He lived and loved for his family. His greatest accomplishment was passing his values and integrity to his children.
His survivors include six children; Carolyn (Jim) Dean of Pataskala, Tamara (Paul) Brasseur of Newark, Kristi (Rick) Houston of Newark, Ronald (Denise) Ivers of Heath, Donald (Kathy) Ivers of Grove City, Jeffrey (Tara) Ivers of Brownsville; grandchildren, James L. (Tammy) Dean, Eric Ivers, Matthew R. Ivers, Jason (Annie) Houston, Stephanie R. (Adam) Arcuri, Donald Houston, Chase Houston, Jennifer Lynn (James) Gibson, Carmen (Shaun) Fountain, Emily D. Ivers, Sheri L. (Camilo) Colotto, Michelle R. Brasseur and Nicole J. Brasseur; great-grandchildren, Kiersten Dean, Kaitlin Dean, Natalie Gibson, James Owen Gibson, JoLynne Gibson, Alexis Collier, Kaleá Collier, Reece Collier, Treyaun Fountain, Addison Fountain, Jacoby Arcuri, Maxton Arcuri, Logan Houston, Lincoln Houston; sisters, Bettie Ivers, Mary Grace Ruth both of Newark; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Jean Carolyn (Smith) Ivers on October 22, 2012; sister, Virginia Ivers; brothers, Richard Ivers and Glenn Ivers.
Calling hours will be observed Friday evening 5 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
