Max R. Erwin, Sr.'s Obituary
A funeral service for Max R. Erwin, Sr. 66, of Mount Vernon will be held Tuesday August 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of God, God’s Acres 675 N. Cedar Street Newark with Brother Leman Whitehead and Pastor Donald Traylor officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Erwin died Tuesday August 23, 2016 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus. He was born November 18, 1949 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Marvin and Ruth (Monk) Erwin.
He owned and operated the WOW Car Company in Newark. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era receiving two purple hearts and two bronze stars. In 2014 he was a candidate for the U.S House of Representatives. He enjoyed traveling on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group.
His survivors include his wife, Adrianne (Wirick) Erwin, whom he married December 7, 2014; children, Max Erwin, Jr. of Hilliard, Tracy Irene Gotthardt of McKinney, TX, Rick A. (Kathy) Erwin of Newark, Tammy Lynn Erwin of Newark, Phoenix Kochis, Phoebie Erwin both of the home; sister, Kitty Friesner of Newark, brothers, Marvin (Linda) Erwin of Missouri, Robert (Alyce) Erwin of Newark, eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Clarissa Erwin; brother-in-law, Steven Friesner.
Calling hours will be observed Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main St.
The family request memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
