Mary J. Miller's Obituary
A funeral service for Mary J. Miller, 98 of Newark will be 1p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara J. Salyers officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mary, went to be with the Lord February 4, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 22, 1927 in Newark, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Frances (Powell) Rickus. She graduated from Newark High School in 1946 and worked as a receptionist for a dance studio.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was devoted to her family and her home. She enjoyed the holiday’s, travel, reading, puzzles and watching Ohio State football with family. She also started a card club that met for 70 years.
A life member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Chancel Guild, United Methodist Women and Miriam Circle.
Survivors include her children, Julie Miller, James Miller; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tarissa) King, Desiree (Nathan) Columbo, Chilton Porter, Cody Miller, Megan Miller Cozi; great-grandchildren, Elly King, Cozi Columbo, Mason Miller and Mina Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard J. Miller; sisters, Betty Long, Maxine Kenstler and Shirley Laymon.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 11a.m to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Licking County Humane Society.
