Mary Alice Hughes' Obituary
A memorial service for Mary Alice Hughes, 81 of Newark will be held Saturday January 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the NEWARK CHAPEL of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 West Main Street, Newark with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. The family will have a time of food and fellowship following the service in the Family Center at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hughes took her final walk with God after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Wednesday morning January 11, 2012 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born January 19, 1930 in Newark to the late William and Hazel (Stoker) Ashley.
Mary retired from State Farm Insurance in 1989. She and her husband were able to spend winters in Florida for 18 years during their retirement. She was an accomplished artist working with oil and watercolors. She was a seamstress and an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and was always ready to stop at a flea market or antique shop. Her family and home life were most important to her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, William D. Hughes, whom she married November 21, 1953; three children, D. Timothy (Jill Rudd) Hughes of Solon, Ohio, Patricia L. Moore of Newark, Thomas A. (Stephanie) Hughes of Newark; eight grandchildren, Tommy A. (Mandy) Hughes, II of Columbus, Mariah Moore of Columbus, Sarah Moore of Newark, Melissa Napier of Newark, Scott Hughes, Shea Hughes both of Newark, Johnna Hughes, Zachary Hughes both of Solon; one great-granddaughter, Sophia.
