Maggie Hawkins' Obituary
A funeral service for Maggie Hawkins, 94 of Sterling Heights, MI will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Maurice Stimage, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Hawkins died Tuesday July 11, 2017 at her son’s home in Newark. She was born July 3, 1923 in Detroit, MI to Frank and Rosalie (Kendrick) Spencer.
Mrs. Hawkins had spent her entire life in the Detroit area. She was a 39 plus year member of the New Liberty Baptist Church and served over 30 years on the usher board. She had volunteered over 25 years with Community Social Services, Senior Companion Hospice program. She enjoyed traveling and family events. She was a very outgoing person and loved by everyone she met.
Maggie is survived by her children, Roy S. (Ursula) Gordon of Newark, Lydia Gordon of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; close family friends, John (Patricia) Brown, Anthony (Val) Matthews, Brenda Lattimore, Robert Sanifer, Michelle Williams, Dot Moon, Colleen Brown, Sheila McCloud, Evelyn McCloud, Nettie & Alonzo Fuller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hawkins; sisters, Minnie Garrison, Marion (Willie) Elliott, Sr.; grandchildren, Marcia Matthews, Anglicque Gordon, Garland Spivey, Roy Flowers, Jr. and Rosaline Culpepper.
Visitation will be observed Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
