A Tribute to All Farmers
By, Loren Knicely
I am only a farmer.
I know nature better than anyone.
I work with the soil, the rain, the sun, the wind, the heat and the cold.
I enjoy them and sometimes fear them.
I am only a farmer.
I am a tenant of God's earth.
I am a sower of seeds, a shepherd of livestock, a reaper of harvest.
I am sweat, tears, and pride.
I am only a farmer.
I am warm memories of the past and hopeful dreams of the future.
I am an optimist, a thinker, a watcher and a doer.
I am only a farmer.
I am a manager, an accountant, a veterinarian, a mechanic and a carpenter.
I am a seller, a trader and a buyer.
I am a father, a friend, a comforter and a teacher to my children.
I am only a farmer.
If a man can be truly free, then truly I am.
I do not work by a time clock.
I can choose the hours I work.
They are mine to spend. They are mine to invest. They are mine to use wisely.
I am only a farmer.
Since I am self-employed, I must use wisely; my intelligence, my confidence, my ingenuity and my patience.
I am not a man of riches, but a man with a great wealth of experience.
I have learned to treasure life and all living things, to respect their maker and my own.
I am only a farmer.
Unlike our government and many other large corporations, we are efficient.
I am part of a minority of 2% and we produce enough to feed the world.
So, the next time you get behind some slow-moving farm machinery, don't complain too much
(especially on a full stomach).
I am only a farmer.
I live in a complicated world, but enjoy the simple things in life.
They are my source of joy, hope and comfort.
I have walked in the morning mist, and paused to marvel at the beauty of sunsets.
I listen to the cheerful sounds of the songbirds.
I enjoy the fragrance of fresh-cut hay.
I am only a farmer.
It is a solitary profession I have chosen, or perhaps that I have been chosen for.
A profession where there are no certainties, where no guarantees are granted and no excuses taken.
I am only a farmer.
I know of no other profession which is closer to God's handiwork.
I am awed by endless rebirth, and marvel as small seeds turn into a bountiful harvest.
I witness many miracles.
I am only a farmer.
I have but God to answer to, to depend on, to confide in.
And in the quiet of the years, I have come to know Him well.
I believe Sunday is a day we should go to church to worship and to sing, and to give thanks for all the blessings to us He brings.
I think that everyone should be PROUD of their many accomplishments!
I once thought that being a farmer didn't sound like a highly skilled profession, until I met a special friend,
who told me that I should be very proud that I am only a farmer, and I will endure
P.S. Lucky for this farmer, that the special friend is now my dear wife!
