Karl C. Van Walsen's Obituary
Karl C. Van Walsen, 78, of Heath formerly of Columbus, Ohio passed away February 3, 2012.
Born April 15, 1933 in Columbus to the late John and Ethel (Chandler) Van Walsen. He was best known as “Van” to his friends. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a self-made man, owning various businesses, notably a moving company for 40 years. Always one to help those less fortunate, he gave far more than he ever received.
He is survived by children, Phillip Van Walsen, Michelle Van Walsen, Scott Van Walsen; step-daughter, Elizabeth Brown; sister Nancy Chandler; ex-wife Carmen Ballenger; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Van Walsen; siblings, Lee Van Walsen, Gertrude Hoover, Adrian Van Walsen and Earl Van Walsen.
Friends and family may visit from 12 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main St., Newark, OH 43055.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
