John B. Walker's Obituary
NEWARK: A funeral service for John B. Walker, 91 of Newark will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide military funeral honors.
Mr. Walker passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born March 11, 1920 in Mary Ann Township to the late Dana and Ruth (Swisher) Walker. A 1939 graduate of Newark High School, Mr. Walker was a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He retired from the Ohio BMV where he worked as an enforcement agent. A member and past president of the Newark Lions Club, member of Acme Lodge 554 F & A.M., Aladdin Shrine, and First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his children, John B. (Sheila) Walker, II. of Granville, Linda (Charles) Walker-Hayes of Newark; a brother Dana (Dee) Walker of Lodi; a sister, Virginia (William) Lavelle of Newark; grandchildren, Amy (Skip) Blessard, Peggy (Barry) Wright, both of Granville, Wendy Johnson of Lithopolis, Mary (Ryan) Harris of Reynoldsburg, Josh Walker of Whitehall; and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Smith) Walker, whom he married March 1, 1943 and who died April 6, 2007; and a sister, Emma Bell.
