John Fred Schilling's Obituary
A funeral service for John Fred Schilling, 92 of Newark will be held Saturday March 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Sunkel officiating. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Schilling died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his residence. He was born September 29, 1922 in Newark to Rushie “Dutch” and Marie (Frye) Schilling.
Mr. Schilling was employed as a truck driver for Pure Oil for 18 years. He also worked in the oil fields as a tool dresser. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and OSU Football. He had a long time interest in antique cars. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII in the U. S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Evelyn (Shoults) Schilling, whom he married December 13, 1947; children, Lynne Schilling, John C. Schilling and close friend Pat Miller all of Newark; brother, Robert Schilling of Newark; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Savage and Esther Schlichter.
Calling hours will be observed one hour before services Saturday at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
