John F. Orben, Jr.'s Obituary
A funeral service for John F. Orben, Jr. 75 of Newark will be held Saturday July 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Shaeffer officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. Orben died Sunday July, 3, 2016 at the Columbus Alzheimers Care Center. He was born December 25, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio to John Frederick and Helen Regina (Papesch) Orben, Sr.
John was a 1958 graduate of Youngstown Wilson High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force in November 0f 1958 to September 1962. He began his 27 year career at the Newark Air Force Base in February 1963 to November 30, 1990. He had accumulated 32 years in the Air Force with 28 years with Ohio Air National Guard. John was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1985. He maintained a 40 year relationship with the American Red Cross, Licking County Chapter, serving on the Board of Directors, Past Chapter Chairman, many committees, First Aid, CPR instructor and trainer. He was a member of the Moundbuilders Kiwanis Club for many years serving as Past President, member of the Board of Directors and on many committees. He was active with many events with the Local Boy Scouts of America, Simon Kenton Council, DeMolay organization and Newark Zoning Board. Following his retirement he was employed a number of years as a livery driver for Courtesy Ambulance and at the Heath Macy’s. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was his favorite driver. He took great pride in caring for his lawn.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna J. (Houck) Orben whom he married December 14, 1962; children, Michael Orben and Lynnette M. Smith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Orben.
Calling hours will be observed Saturday from 11a.m. until service time at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
