John L. DeVault's Obituary
A memorial service for John L. DeVault, 80 of Granville will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Heath Christian Union Church, 80 Licking View Drive, Heath with Pastor Neal Skiles and Pastor Wally McLaughlin officiating. Friends may visit at the church one hour prior to the service.
John went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
John was a graduate of the Granville High School, class of 1955. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a jet mechanic. He had also been employed by Kaiser Aluminum, Jenkins Sunoco in Granville and drove a semi-truck for Rich Loaf Bakery. He worked for 33 years with Licking Laundry/Buckeye Linen Service retiring in 2004 as the plant superintendent. After retirement he drove for Hinderer Honda for an additional 8 years.
He was a member of the Heath Christian Union Church where he served over the years as Elder, Sunday school teacher and trustee. He was also active in the Ohio State Christian Union Council. In the summer, he loved mowing the lawn and sitting in the shade at the edge of the garage watching cars pass and waving to the neighbors.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sherry L. (Darkes) DeVault, whom he married November 1, 1959; daughter, Gina L. DeVault of Newark; sister, Judy Boyer of Pleasantville, OH; sisters-in law, Flo DeVault-Desmone of Heath, Pat Cunningham of Hebron, Kay (John) George of Florida; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James DeVault and step-mother, Edna (Leiendecker) DeVault.
The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Heath Christian Union Church, 80 Licking View Drive, Heath, OH 43056-1530. Envelopes will be available at the church.
