I remember Joan as a vibrant young woman stopping at 9:30 one evening to tell Vondalyn and I she would like to walk thru the old house we had just redone she was always very cordial to both of us , Then when she bought her new 1949 caddy convertable she and Jack stopped and said come for a ride we are gong to Buckeye Lake and would like you to go with us , Fond memories we moved to Florida in 1962 and never forgot Joan.
I met Joan through a mutual friend at DMA national convention in mid 80's. We stayed good friends and connecting each summer. We all stayed together each year at nationals. She was an amazing lady displaying the decorum and class she possessed. She has made an internal impact on my life. She is always in my thoughts and prayers.
I took many classes at her dance studio in the 70’s. She was a very good teacher. I will always those memories. God Bless and very sorry for your loss.
I am very sorry to here about your loss, Joan was a strong woman I was in her baton classes in the 70,s i loved her very much she took me to ricitals and many parades. She will be missed not another dance teacher out there like her.
I have admired Joan for MANY YEARS. She was so talented, kind and caring. My whole family was very sad to hear of her passing. Joan was truly a wonderful example to all in the dance world. Even my 14 year old Granddaughter said, “She’s always announced my dance numbers ever since I started competing. I can’t imagine her not being there.” I’m sorry for your loss, but know she was a great lady. ❤❤
A Legend laid to rest. I was fortunate to have taken Dance lessons from her for 13 years. She will Greatly be Missed by So Many. Keep on Dancing in Heaven Joan! Prayers for the Family!
Was a student in the 1950’s . Remember to this day, Brush ball, ball change and many ballet positions followed by “Point Those Toes. Joan was a special person
And passed on many special life lessons
May she Dance in Heaven.
So many great memories of Joan & entire family. My mom [Norma Swope] both taught me tap lessons as a child in Frazeysburg. Stored in a box still have my costumes along with my mom's tap shoes. May you rest in peace & never stop dancing.
My daughter has been Joan's student for the past 5 years. We joined the GDA family because we heard Joan was the best around! Little did I know she was as legend and am so thankful that my daughter was able to learn under Joan for the past few years. We loved Joan so much and she will be deeply and sorely missed by our family as well as the dance community. We also just want to send our condolences to her son, daughter in law and grandchildren.
