Janis Hurst's Obituary
A funeral service for Janis J. Hurst, 83 of Heath will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026 at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will be at Wilson Cemetery.
Janis passed peacefully early Monday morning, May 18, 2026 at Danbury of Westerville. She was born March 10, 1943 in Kenton, OH to the late Carl Emerson and Frances Lavon (Brown) Treen. She spent her formative years in Bellefontaine, Ohio and graduated from Bellefontaine High with the class of 1961. She retired from Holophane after 31 years of service and during retirement she worked for Licking County Transit.
Janis gave selflessly to those she loved and was primary care giver for several years to her mother Frances when Frances was no longer able to care for herself. She had a great love for spending quality time with both family and friends. In addition, she enjoyed painting, traveling, music, and animals of all kinds.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela (Patrick) Winchell; sister, Patricia Buchanan; grandchildren, Lorrie Hurst, Jake Johnson, Jessica (Shawn) Hurst, Mollie Hurst and Erin Winchell; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janis was preceded in death by children, James “Bob” Hurst, Jr., Lisa Hurst, and Amber Johnson. As well as grandchild, Cory Nethers.
Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service from 12p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
