Janet Marie Powe's Obituary
Newark: A homegoing service celebrating the life of Janet Marie (Johnson) Powe, 71 of Newark will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael A. Noble and Rev. Keith Wyatt officiating.
Mrs. Powe went to eternal rest at home, surrounded by her loving family Monday morning, January 23, 2012. She was born June 26, 1940 in Newark to the late John Maddox and Arvella Armstrong. Mrs. Powe was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was very creative; she enjoyed arts and crafts; and making wreaths and floral arrangements. She also loved to fish.
Survivors include her sons, Martin Powe of Newark, Vernon Johnson, Jr. of Zanesville; daughters, Gwendolyn “Vel” (Anthony) Matthews of Newark, Jacquelyn (Avery) Scott of Decatur, GA; a brother Eric (Diane) Hill of Zanesville; a sister Sharon (James) McCall of Newark; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and longtime friends Barbara Johnson, Linda Whittington, Sara Lee and Becky Fields; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powe was preceded in death by four children, Robbie, Sharon, Karen, and Lelani; three brothers and three sisters.
Friends and family may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main St., Newark; and one hour prior to the service at the church, 383 Washington St., Newark.
