James E. O'Flaherty's Obituary
James Edward O'Flaherty, 90, of Heath, Ohio, formerly of Hanover, Ohio died Monday afternoon, September 1, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio.
Born July 20, 1935 in Hanover, Ohio, he was a son of the late George and Ila (Morgan) O'Flaherty and was a 1953 graduate of Hanover -Toboso High School. James was a member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church and New Home Lodge #338, F&AM. He retired from the Ohio National Guard in 1990 after 39 years of dedicated service. James was a family man and enjoyed every moment he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is a son, Ed (Paola) O'Flaherty of Centerburg, Ohio; daughter, Debra (Keith) Eschbaugh of Sebastian, Florida; daughter in-law, Mimi O'Flaherty of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jared (Allison) Eschbaugh, Tyler O'Flaherty and Harley (Carmen) O'Flaherty; great grandchild, Willson Eschbaugh with an additional great grandchild due in February 2026. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Eleanor A. O'Flaherty whom he married March 27, 1954 and who died February 16, 2020; son, Mike O'Flaherty; brother, John O'Flaherty and two sisters, Janice Gamerdinger and Betty Hutchison.
In keeping with James' wishes, there will be no public calling hours.
Family and friends may attend graveside services held at Hanover Cemetery at 2:00pm Friday, September 5, 2025. James will be laid to rest next to his wife, Eleanor.
