Jack D. "Elmo" Kashner's Obituary
A memorial service for Jack D. “Elmo” Kashner, 52 of Newark will be held Saturday January 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Newark High School Auditorium, 314 Granville Street with Gus Andrews officiating.
Mr. Kashner died Tuesday January 1, 2013 at Newark Kindred Transitional Care. He was born April 9, 1960 in Oxford, Ohio to the late William C. and Martha Ann (Callander) Kashner.
He retired from the Newark City School System in 2010 with 31 years of service. During his employment he drove school bus, served as a custodian and a cook. He was a member of OAPSE, AFSCME Local 190. He was a certified Bus Driver Trainer and taught Bus Safety during Safety City. He drove many band, athletic and choir groups to their activities and was an active supporter of their endeavors. Jack was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by two sisters, Kay E. (Steve) Hickman of Pickerington, Mary (Bob) German of Hanover; brother, Thomas R. (Monica) Kashner of Marne; sister-in-law, Diana Kashner; nieces, Dr. Lisa Ghiloni of Houston, TX, Sarah (Dr. Eric) Tomich of San Antonio, TX, Stephanie (Brian) Glancy of Newark, Jenifer (Quinn) Schaller of Hebron, Jamie Lewis of New York, NY; nephews, William “Herk” (Deanna) Kashner of Newark, Nathan Kashner of Marne, Tyler (Heather) Hickman of Cleveland, Pete German of Hanover, Tim German of Hanover, Vince German of Hanover, Andy Lewis of Pataskala; several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William R. Kashner and nephew, Jeremy Ghiloni.
Calling hours will be observed Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Newark High School Auditorium.
The family requests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, Fine Arts or Athletic Departments at Newark High School.
