Hugh Allen Cook's Obituary
NEWARK: A funeral service for Hugh Allen Cook, 84 of Newark will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Kittle officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Franklin Township.
Mr. Cook passed away unexpectedly at his home December 21, 2013. He was born May 1, 1929 in Calhoun, KY to the late William “Buck” and Hallie (Abney) Cook. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In addition during his career in the Air Force he worked as a Tech Sergeant and as a recruiter. He went on to become an entrepreneur in retail sales, which included clothing, motorcycles, and a primary focus on automobiles and dealerships. Hugh enjoyed showing quarter horses and he was an avid golfer. He had 3 hole in ones and had recently scored his age. He loved golf, not just the game but the people he connected with.
Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Doris L. (Miller) Cook, whom he married September 13, 1952; a daughter, Kim (Dana) Price of Thornville; a son, Gregg (Beverly) Cook of Newark; grandchildren, Amy Watkins of Etna, Ryan Price of Newark, Marty Cook of Pataskala; a great granddaughter, Whitney Watkins; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Hugh was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Cook and Fred Cook; a sister, Margaret Coin; and grandson in-law, Charlie Watkins.
Friends and family may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
