Helen Marie Pryor's Obituary
Helen Marie (Pound) Pryor, age 96 passed away peacefully at home into God’s loving hands on Monday, June 5th, 2017. She was born February 5, 1921 in Newark, Ohio; the seventh of nine children of Abigail (Wright) and Amzy Pound.
Helen attended Business School in Newark, worked at Pharis Tire and Rubber Company for four years, raised her family, and then worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance for 25 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newark, the second longest living member at 82 years. Helen lived a full life. She was very loving, positive, hardworking, independent woman who enjoyed her family, her many relationships and contributions at Church including cooking many meals, serving as Treasurer and Deacon; she enjoyed golfing, knitting, sewing/quilting, basket weaving, chair caning, cooking/baking, bridge club, candy making (for 80 years) and caring for her week-end farm property.
Helen is survived by her children, Edward (Donna), Janice, Paul (Sue) and Jack (Debby) Pryor; grandchildren Zachary (Julie), Jason (Gwen), David (Lisa), Amy, Krista (Pryor) Mobley (Ryan), Jennifer (Pryor) Hickman (Walter) and Carri (fiancé Dave Krieger); eleven great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a brother Harold Pound; two sisters-in-law and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former spouse, Clifford A. Pryor, six of her brothers, one sister, and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11th, 2017, at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main St., Newark.
A life celebration service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH, 43058-0430. Hospice provided great care for Helen when she needed it the most. Contributions may also be made to First Presbyterian Church, 65 North Third St., Newark, Ohio 43055.
Helen’s ashes will be scattered at her farm in Rushville, Ohio.
