Harold G. Carlson, Sr.'s Obituary
A graveside funeral service for Harold G. Carlson, Sr., 95 of Newark will be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Newark Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jeff Perry officiating.
Mr. Carlson died Saturday October 31, 2015 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 19, 1920 in Hammond, Indiana to Emil and Edith (Ambros) Carlson.
He was raised in the Chicago area and moved to Newark in 1952 from Rochester, MN. He retired in 1985 with 33 years of service from Rockwell International as a foreman in the tool grinding department. He was a member of UAW # 1037. He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong bowler and at the age of 78 bowled a 706 series. He was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion, while living in Chicago. He loved baseball and was the manager of the 1959 winning team at the Licking County Shrine Tournament. He and his wife were avid square dancers and enjoyed camping. He attended many of his daughters dance recitals and competitions. He continued to attend many of the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout his life.
He is survived by two sons, Harold “Bud” G. (Carol) Carlson, Jr. of Newark, Michael “Mike” (Mary) Carlson of Williamsburg, Virginia; three daughters, Linda (Moran) Davis, Jeannie Carlson, Sheri Carlson Mertz all of Newark; sister, Junellen Johnson of Batavia, IL; brother, Richard Carlson of Dolton, IL; son-in-law, Dave Santee of Newark; grandchildren, Lori (Chuck) Ankrom of Johnstown, Justine (Brian) Swan of Newark, Emily (Al) DeRosa Of Milford, NJ, Aleta (Ryan) Casbohm of Tampa FL, and Brian Carlson of Telluride, CO; great-grandchildren, Kellye (Josh) Lash of Johnstown, Shalee Carlson of Utica, Olivia Ankrom, Cody Adkins, Shana Francis-Conley, Raymond Mertz all of Newark, Tanner Swan, Cambryn Swan, Ainsley Casbohm, Barrett Casbohm, AJ DeRosa, Anthony DeRosa, Quinn Carlson and Magnus Carlson; great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Lash, Piper Lash, Nicholas Adkins and Adeline Carlson-Wilkinson, Gage Carlson-Wilkinson, Jace Worth; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie A. (White) Carlson March 19, 2012; daughter, Connie (Moran) Santee; brother, Jack Carlson; son-in-law, Bob (R. L.) Davis.
Calling hours will be observed Wednesday evening 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newark Chapel VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
