Glennie R. Smith's Obituary
A funeral service for Glennie R. Smith, 90 of Newark, formerly of Johnstown will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor William Lavely officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Concord Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Arlington Care Center. He was born November 1, 1924 in Mary Ann Twp. to the late Fred W. and Lillie (Maharg) Smith. He worked as a farmer and machinist. He was a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII having been awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a life member of the American Legion, Post 254 in Johnstown. He was admitted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2013.
Survivors include his brothers, Vernon Smith, Stanley (Linda) Smith, James Smith, all of Johnstown; sisters, Ginny Huffman of Newark, Lucille Wicker of Utica, and Georgine (Jerry) Kokensparger of Heath.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a baby sister, four nephews, a brother in-law and a sister in-law.
Friends and family may call 1-3 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Arlington Nursing Home or the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
