George E. Cullins' Obituary
A funeral service for George E. Cullins, 91 of Newark will be held Saturday January 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Shawn R. Morris officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery. Military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Cullins died Wednesday January 2, 2013 at the Arlington Care Center. He was born October 12, 1921 in Dresden, Ohio to the late Henry Edward and Zona (Adams) Cullins.
Mr. Cullins retired from Rockwell Manufacturing in 1982 with 30 years of service. He was a 55 year member of the Neal Avenue United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the V.F. W. Post # 1060, Cooties, American Legion and Newark Eagles. He was a former member of the Logan Moose, Newark Elks and Druids. He had served as Constable of Dresden and as a Special Deputy in Licking County. After his retirement he and Doris would winter in Vero Beach, FL and summer at Burr Oak in Glouster. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and OSU sports.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris (Welsh) Cullins, whom he married January 17, 1944; daughters, Bonnie Holtz of Newark, Janet (Tom) Benjamin of Lima, Shari Lewis of Hanover; former daughter-in-law, Nancy Cullins-Wolfe; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph “Eddie” Cullins, sons-in-law, Kenneth Holtz and David Lewis; four brothers and one sister.
Calling hours will be observed Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street. V.FW. services will be held at 5:45 p.m.
