George W. "Bill" Martin's Obituary
A funeral service for George W. “Bill” Martin, 98 of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Martin died August 30, 2015 at the Arlington Care Center. He was born July 20, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Mr. Martin was a contractor and carpenter for several years. He also worked as a Property Manager for Showe Builders alongside his wife Faith for several years. Mr. Martin was an active member of Eastside Church of the Nazarene for many years. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was very active in his grandchildren's lives. He enjoyed attending sporting events, Birthday parties, and talking with them about their lives. He also enjoyed golf, Cincinnati Reds, Buckeyes and Denison Basketball.
Survivors include a daughter, Susie Richardson; son, Larry (Gayle) Martin; grandchildren, Kim (Glenn) Hartman, Mark (Christine) Johnson, Michael (Jessica) Frye, Kristi (Steve) Woolard, Matthew (Jennifer) Eckard, Lora Smith, Jason Eckard and Larry Martin, Jr.; great grandchildren, John Stuck, Olivia Johnson, Cory Johnson, Darius Frye, Ian Frye, Brad Woolard, Bret Woolard, Cody Satterfield, Tyler Eckard, Kiley Eckard, Olivia Smith, Noah Smith; great-great grandson, Brody Stuck; special friends, Shirley Woolard, Clark, Kim and Reece Borgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faith (Barlow) Martin, December 9, 2013; a son, Virgil E. Johnson, Jr.; sister, Margaret.
Friends and family may call from 10 am till time of services on Saturday at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
