Fred B Wollins' Obituary
Fred B. Wollins, 80 of Newark passed peacefully with his family at his bedside on Monday September 5, 2011 due to complications from pancreatic cancer at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
Mr. Wollins was born August 16, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to the late Herman and Clara (Winer) Wollins.
Fred retired in 2005 as the owner of H. L. Art Jewelers, Inc. He purchased the store in 1976. He was associated with the store for 50 years from 1955 to 2005 and served as secretary/treasurer and president. He was a member of the Ohio Retail Jewelers Association, Retail Jewelers of America, Independent Jewelers Organizations and a 50 year member of the Moundbuilders Country Club.
He was a graduate of Buchtel High School, Akron, Ohio. He received a degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University in 1953. He served as a 1st Lt. in the USAF during the Korean Conflict.
Fred served on the board of directors of several local companies including; Central Trust Company Board serving on the audit, trust and executive committees, Mid-Ohio Development Corporation, Englefield Oil Company, Inc., H.L. Art, Your Jeweler, Inc. and Newark Asphalt Paving Company, Inc.
He was involved in several local partnerships including JMW Realty Company, Motel Development LTD, Real Estate Investors #1, Real Estate Investors #2 and Newark Investors Club for 50 years.
He was a member and an officer of many civic organizations including, Licking County Chamber of Commerce (vice-pres.), Downtown Newark Association (pres.), Newark Ohio Rotary Club (sec.), Citizens Advisory Council, The Ohio State University, Newark Campus, Newark Lodge B’nai Brith (pres.), Ohev Israel Temple (pres.), Licking County Heart Association (pres.), Association of Ohio Commodores, Trustee of the Cecil L. Mauger Charitable Trust.
Fred is survived by his wife Sondra L. (Colvin) Wollins; two daughters, Teri (Fred) Lowinger of Winnetka, IL., Karen Wollins and her partner Kathleen Kuiper of Chicago, Il.; three grandchildren, Lauren, Stephen and Danny Lowinger.
Fred’s wishes were that his body be cremated and a celebration of his life to be held at the Moundbuilders Country Club. His life celebration will take place Wednesday evening September 14, 2011 at the Moundbuilders Country Club, 125 N. 33rd Street, Newark. Family and friends attending should plan on arriving at 6:00 p.m. A buffet will be served at 6:45p.m. Please R.S.V.P. prior to Tuesday Sept. 13th @ 344-9431.
