Grandmother had a way of getting into your heart, starting with her German bataytuh' salad. She put sugar in it but admittedly I think she put sugar in every recipe she made. She loved second helpings, second breakfasts, my second cousins, and her second husband, Bob, who quite happily endured her penchant for sweet cake.
In loving her, forgiveness was a daily practice and yet I think her greatest beauty may have been in her life's unfolding. There was an undeniable perseverance in the marks time left on her.
