Ellen Merricks' Obituary
A funeral service for M. Ellen Merricks, 76 of Newark will be held Thursday October 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Dave Mason and David Linn officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Ellen died unexpectedly Saturday September 30, 2017 at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born September 8, 1941 in Newark to Harry E. and Alice Jane (Harter) Alban.
She was a member of the Heath Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, walking and spending time at Lake Erie. She was an avid fan of the OSU Football program. She had a close relationship with her neighbors and was fond of cats. She was a 1959 graduate of Newark High School and a 1963 graduate of the Ohio State University. She was a former second grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School. Ellen was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her sons, Bradley R. Merricks of Newark, Trenton D. (Laura) Merricks, II of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Emily, Conor, Will; sister-in-law, Kaye D. Alban; nephew, Matt Alban.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Trenton D. Merricks, January 1, 2017; twin brother, Reese E. Alban.
Calling hours will be observed Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
