Edwin D. Claggett's Obituary
A funeral service for Edwin D. Claggett 82 of Newark will be held Friday December 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.
Mr. Claggett died Monday December 18, 2017 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation of Newark. He was born February 18, 1935 in St. Louisville to James F. and Mary Ann (Davis) Claggett.
Mr. Claggett was a 1954 graduate of Bladensburg High School and Niles Bryant School of Electronic Organ Servicing. He was a 12 year veteran of the United States Air Force. He received extensive training in radio; navigation repair and instructor of aircraft electronics. He served almost 3 years in Europe during his service. In 1988 he retired from the Newark Air Force Base as an electronic measurement equipment mechanic. For over 40 years he repaired electronic organs for dealers, churches and individuals.
Mr. Claggett was a member of the Music instrument Technicians Association and the Organ Historical Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Katrina G. Newman of Newark; sons, Kevin D. Claggett of Columbus, Nathan D. (Sherry) Claggett of St. Louisville; the children’s mother, Barbara E. (Oakleaf) Claggett of Columbus; sister, Martha Baughman of Newark; brother, Raymond Claggett of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, Tabitha (Mark Gail) Newman, Bethany Newman, Vanessa Newman all of Newark, Caleb Claggett, Colby Claggett of St. Louisville; Great-grandson, Bruce Gail; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Philip L. Claggett; sisters, Hattie Louise Carpenter, Bertha May Sturgis, Etha L. Layton; brothers, Wilbert Paul Claggett, Lee Russell Claggett.
Calling hours will be observed Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
