Dorothy A. Houdeshell's Obituary
A memorial service for Dorothy A. Houdeshell, 94 of Villa Hills, KY, formerly of Newark, OH will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 in the Veterans Chapel at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Pastor Dave Warner officiating. Inurnment will follow.
Dorothy passed away peacefully at her home following a lengthy illness on July 2, 2016. She was born on August 22, 1921 in Pike Township, Coshocton County, OH to the late Henry Ray and Bernice Lulu (McGruder) Gault.
Dorothy graduated from West Carlisle High School in 1939. In 1983 she retired as Newark City Council Clerk after 23 years of service to the city. During her tenure she served under Mayors Richard Fortune, David R. Evans, P. Wendell Reed, James Alexander, Richard Baker and Mary Lusk.
Dorothy was a woman of quiet strength and determination and a loving and devoted mother to her two children who survive her, Patricia Woeste of Kentucky, Monty (Keena) Houdeshell of Utah. Other survivors include granddaughter, Emily (Tom) Knight of California; sisters-in-law, Frances “Happy” (Levingston) Gault, Lona (Houdeshell) Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roe Emerson Houdeshell, whom she married in 1940, and who died in 1960; a granddaughter, Amy Woeste; and siblings, infant Herman Gault, Willard (Mary) Gault, Chester Gault, Frances (Roy) Ashcraft, Margaret (John) Scrafford.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 10:00 am until service at 11:00 am at the Veterans Chapel at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 275 North Cedar Street, Newark.
