Dorothy Arlene Houck's Obituary
Dorothy Arlene Houck, 92 of Heath died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Heath Nursing and Convalescent Center. She was born January 26, 1920 in Knox County to the late Clinton and Marie (Kunkle) Scoles.
Mrs. Houck had attended St. John’s Lutheran Church. She had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the choir. She received a degree in elementary teaching from Bowling Green University. She taught the third grade for 20 years at Jersey Elementary and Jacksontown Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Licking County Retired Teachers Association. A favorite pastime was playing the piano and violin. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and bird watching. In later years she found pleasure in playing cards.
She is survived by her children, Jan Dale (Deborah) Houck of Newark, Dalene (Albert) Outcalt of Ft. Myers, FL., Yvonne (Jack) Pursell of Newark, Sue (Larry) Lowe of Butler, OH., numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, of 69 years, Edwin Dale. Houck on October 5, 2009; a sister, Ruth Burson and a brother, Gordon Scoles.
Calling hours will be observed Monday, May 14, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street. A private family service will be held at a later date.
