Donald W. "Skip" Dolen's Obituary
A funeral service for Donald W. “Skip” Dolen, 60 of Newark will be Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Miriam Schreck officiating. Burial will be in Salem Church Cemetery, Sonora, Ohio.
Mr. Dolen died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born October 15, 1952 in Zanesville.
Mr. Dolen was employed 25 years with Grief Brothers and recently for 9 years with Team Penske Trucking as a customer service representative. Mr. Dolen was always ready to help someone and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, boating and target shooting. He raised a garden during the summer giving away most of his produce. He had driven stock cars when he was younger. Indoors he was happy playing cards, darts and dancing. He was a member of Teamsters Local # 413 and the NRA. He was a former member of the Druids and Eagles.
He is survived by his mother, Bernadine Inman of Newark; wife, Chris L. (Brennan) Dolen, whom he married May 24, 1975; sons Shawn W. Dolen and Krissy of Newark, Shane C. Dolen and Jessie of Newark; sisters, Sherry (Bill) Crouse of Newark, Patty Christian of Newark; brother, Chuck Brown of Newark; brothers in law, H. Gordon Brennan of Mt. Vernon, Mike Brennan of Newark; sisters-in-law, Marcie (John) Wolfle of Nashport, Heather (Dick)Rudbeck of Dadeville, Ala.; mother-in-law, Christine Brennan of Newark; several nieces, nephews and his dog Koal.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie and Margaret Dolen, who raised him; two brothers, Terry Brown, George Dolen; father-in-law, H. Gordon Brennan; brother-in-law, Willard Christian; sisters-in-law, Sarah Brennan and Emily Painter.
Calling hours will be observed Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
The family requests memorial contributions in Skip’s name are made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 592 W. Main Street, Newark.
