Curtis W. Smith's Obituary
Curtis W. Smith, 80 of Newark, OH formerly of Illinois passed away on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at the Inn at Chapel Grove.
Mr. Smith was born October 4, 1940 in Spring Valley, Illinois to Charles V. and Alvina C. (Jordan) Smith.
A private inurnment service will be held at a later date at the Peru City Cemetery in Peru, Illinois.
Curt started his teaching career in Columbus City Schools, teaching middle school special education classes. After moving to Newark in the 1970s, he was employed by the LIcking County Board of Developmental Disabilities and spent many years teaching high school age students until his retirement.
Curt enjoyed spending time with his friends, entertaining in his home and never missed an opportunity to attend a Smith reunion or visit his family. He put his training from the fields of his country home in Illinois to work in his small city lot and filled it with flowers that brought admiration from many people as they walked past. For several years he enjoyed singing in Vintage Voices, a senior citizens choir based in Granville, Ohio.
Survivors include sister-in-law Judy Smith of Dimmick, brother-in-laws Jim Waytenick of Peru and Wayne Schultz of Mendota and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends Larry Klingler, Linda Helm and Dan Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters Myrtle McNeilly, Betty Hess, Norma Krenz, Ginny Schultz, Arlene Waytenick and Shirley Wenzel and three brothers Chuck, Bob and Raymond Smith.
