Claude James Swartz's Obituary
A funeral service for Claude J. Swartz, Sr. 86 of Newark will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 11;00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Newland officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.
Mr. Swartz died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at his residence. He was born March 14, 1929 in Newark to Harry L. and Mabel B. (Padgett) Swartz.
Mr. Swartz retired as the custodian at the American Legion Post # 85 in Newark. He previously had worked at the Casing Company and Kit Manufacturing. He enjoyed building dog houses and picnic tables. A favorite pastime was gardening. He had planted gardens for many years to help care for his family. The family has many fond memories of get-togethers for cook-outs and the many Sunday dinners.
Survivors include his children, Sue (Tony) Angeletti of Utica, Kitty Bergman & Doug Johnson of Westerville, Jim (Sandy) Swartz of Frazeysburg, Rick (Cindy) Swartz of Frazeysburg, Randy Swartz of Michigamme, MI, Joe Swartz of Newark, Debra Swartz of Brownsville, Sandra Cierny of Wooster, Mark Swartz of Frazeysburg; grandchildren, Terry Swartz, Scott Swartz, Lisa Klick, Kevin Klick, Misty Watling, Cristy Conklin, Catrina Swartz, Jake Swartz, Danielle, Randy Swartz, Jr., Robin Kinser, Michael Shearer, Joseph Bergman, Nicole Bergman; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Swartz of Pataskala; many nieces and nephews; special thanks and recognition to his caregivers, Susan Luckeydoo, Mary Spencer and the hospice staff for their devotion. He also leaves his beloved dog, Chichi.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (Nethers) Swartz, two sons, Craig and Rob Swartz; brothers, Paul, Harry, Gene, Harold Swartz; sisters, Marjorie Swartz, Jane Kovach; granddaughter & great-grandson.
Calling hours will be observed Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058-9909. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
