Cheryl Lee Maier's Obituary
Funeral services for Cheryl Lee Maier, 61 of Newark will be held Friday August 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Sarah Juist officiating. Burial will be Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Cheryl died Saturday July 29, 2017 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville. She was born October 25, 1955 in Newark to Bobby D. Penick and Mary Margaret (Martin) Penick-Lane.
She was employed as a medical encoder at Licking Memorial Health Systems since 2010. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1987-1991. She was a 1974 graduate of Newark High School, attended The Ohio State University and received an associate degree from DeVry University. She was a member of Hanover American Legion Post #764, Licking Valley Lions Club and helped organize the Women’s Vets Conference. She enjoyed the holidays, event planning and making elaborate costumes. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Danielle Maier (Scott Hollins), Robert Harmon, Brianna Humphries; grandchildren, Sophie Booker, Delaney Hollins; brothers and sisters, Melody Conrad, Tom (Cheri) Penick, David Penick, Vickie (Jim) Abbott, Jenny Booth; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Charles H. Lane; sister, Sharon O'Reilly; brother, Johnny Penick; and great niece, Stephanie Conley.
Calling hours will be observed Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Hanover Presbyterian Church, 732 N. Main St. Newark, OH 43055-9104. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
