Cheri Nicole Thompson's Obituary
A funeral service celebrating the life of Cheri Nicole Thompson, 40 of Hebron will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Heath Church of Christ with Greg Robbins and Dave Mason officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery.
Cheri passed away on August 29, 2014 at her residence. She was born on May 16, 1974, in Newark, Ohio, a daughter of Gerald “Nick” and Diane (Victor) Esworthy. Cheri was a cheerleader and prom queen at Newark High School, graduating in 1992. She was an employee of State Farm Insurance.
In 1994, Cheri married the love of her life, Gary Thompson. During their 20 years of marriage, Gary and Cheri welcomed two beautiful children, Kelsi and Kory. She and Gary raised their children with love; both becoming star athletes and lively children that sustained their mother’s outgoing and loving personality. One of Cheri’s greatest joys was watching her family achieve their accomplishments. Everyday Kelsi and Kory carry with them the quotes by which Cheri often lived her life. One of their favorites was the following: “Sometimes the best thing that you can do is not think. Not wonder. Not imagine. Not obsess. Just breathe. And have faith that everything will work out for the best.”- Unknown
One of Cheri’s passions and talents was designing and creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Cheri had a particular love of the holidays, especially Christmas, making her home the center of annual celebrations with loved ones. She enjoyed memorializing everything in photographs; it was an unwritten rule that everyone must be willing to smile for a picture at any given moment. Cheri’s door was always open to family and friends. Her smile lit up the room and brought joy to all who knew her. Cheri was a thrill-seeker, who loved visiting theme parks and riding roller coasters with her family. She loved visiting the beach on family vacations. Cheri was an avid runner, finishing her first half marathon last year. She recently started golf lessons with her husband Gary and was truly enjoying the challenge of mastering a new pastime.
Cheri was a dedicated volunteer and involved community member, working tirelessly to benefit others. She was a member of the Ohio Child Conservation League (OCCL), an active member of the Lakewood Athletic Boosters, previous member of the Lakewood Middle School PTO.
In addition to her parents, husband and children Cheri is survived by sister Kelli (Nathan) Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Lorena Thompson, and their son, Jeff Thompson; and many close aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Cheri is also survived by her beloved dogs, Nike and Bella, and special friends the Drumm and Rose families.
Cheri was preceded in death by grandmother Ann E. Victor, uncle Gary Brehm, and cousin Shawn Brehm.
Friends and family may visit 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. and 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Tuesday at the Heath Church of Christ, 1331 Chapel Way, Heath.
